About Us – VS Thirumaal Arts

Crafted in Devotion. Rooted in Tradition.

The story of VS Thirumaal Arts — where ancient Panchaloha craftsmanship meets living heritage.

Our Heritage

VS Thirumaal Arts was founded on a singular belief: that sacred art must be made with the same reverence with which it is worshipped. Rooted in the temple towns of Tamil Nadu, our atelier carries forward a lineage of Sthapathis — master craftsmen whose knowledge of form, proportion, and sacred geometry has been passed down through generations.

Every idol that leaves our workshop is not merely an object — it is a consecrated form, shaped by skilled hands, guided by the Agama Shastra, and finished to honour the deity it represents.

Why Panchaloha?

  • Panchaloha (பஞ்சலோஹம்) is the sacred five-metal alloy prescribed in ancient Hindu scriptures for the casting of temple idols. The five metals — Gold (Swarna), Silver (Rajata), Copper (Tamra), Zinc (Yashada), and Iron (Loha) — are combined in precise proportions that have remained unchanged for over a thousand years.

  • This alloy is believed to carry divine energy and is the only material sanctioned for idols that undergo Prana Pratishtha (consecration) in temples. At VS Thirumaal Arts, we source and blend our Panchaloha to exacting traditional standards — no shortcuts, no substitutions.

Our Craft Process

Each piece follows the classical lost-wax casting (Madhuchishta Vidhana) method — a technique unchanged since the Chola period:

  1. Wax Modelling — The idol is sculpted in beeswax, following canonical iconographic proportions (Tala Pramana).
  2. Clay Moulding — The wax model is encased in layers of sacred clay and fired, allowing the wax to melt away.
  3. Metal Pouring — Molten Panchaloha is poured into the hollow mould with precision and prayer.
  4. Finishing & Detailing — Once cooled, master artisans hand-chisel every detail — the curve of a crown, the drape of a garment, the expression of the eyes.
  5. Consecration Readiness — The idol is polished, inspected, and prepared for ritual use or home worship.
